Although we are known to the world as Hershey, we are not officially a town. We do not have a mayor, but are governed by the Township Board of Supervisors. When Milton Hershey first established his business here, the area was known as Derry Church, later Derry Township. Because the railroad had to establish a train stop for Mr. Hershey's chocolate factory, it was the railroad that began to call us "Hershey" after Milton S. Hershey. The name stuck and we've been known as Hershey ever since.
