Baby Bobcats

ZooAmerica is now home to three adorable baby bobcats! Born on May 5, the babies were given the signature names “Kit Kat,” “Reese” and “Hershey.” Playful and curious, these kittens are very entertaining to watch. The baby bobcats cannot always be found rolling around in the public viewing area of their habitat, as they are sometimes in their den with their mother, Kira, for feeding and care. ZooAmerica welcomed the kittens' mother, Kira, back in 2007.

Look for these new mates!

A new mate for our ringtail, found in the Nocturnal wing of the Cactus Community, arrived from the zoo in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Hopefully you will catch a peek at Rita as she joins Reno in the Cactus Community.

You may have noticed that Blondie, the lynx, also has a new mate. Woody, a captive raised cat from upstate Minnesota, was introduced into that exhibit during winter – their favorite season. From a Curator’s perspective, the pairing went as well as can be expected, as both cats accepted each other very quickly after a short sparring period. Woody is usually located toward the front of the exhibit and Blondie has retained the rights to continue hanging out on the platform toward the back of the exhibit. Woody loves to fish, so watch for him attempting to snare a minnow from his pool!

A new species for ZooAmerica

ZooAmerica recently welcomed a new species – a swift fox. It has been a few years since we exhibited a member of the fox family, so we are excited for this arrival. Her name is Jill and she came to us from her prior home at the zoo in Pueblo, Colorado. No telling what kind of trouble a fox with a name like that might tumble into!

Winged Creatures

Seven vampire bats arrived from the Philadelphia Zoo in early April. They will be on display in the Nocturnal wing of the Cactus Community.
